Blue Girls Picking Flowers

This oil on canvas series, The Twitter Paintings, consists of mid-sized works featuring women as a backdrop for my need to communicate in writing whatever at that very moment. I entered the world of Twitter in late 2016 and did binge tweet of some four hundred crypto messages in the format. My favorite message which appears in my eighteen paintings of this first run of the Twitter series is the question: “Do you think rich people have nightmares about guillotines?”.
In terms of technique, I used liberally for the first time in my work the ‘drip and run’ application of paint. Using excessive oil mixture mediums, I would angle the canvas in many directions, and as I applied the paint, it would run its own course over the surface. I am very steeped in zen theology in the sense that everything of itself has its own life to live and course to go. This was a wonderful experiment watching the multiple colors trickle their own tributaries and melt indelibly into the porous, unprimed canvas.
